Plain white blouse, Burda Style 05-2012-103

My younger daughter asked for a plain white blouse a few years ago, (unfortunately looking up the post has revealed to me that this was 3 whole years ago) and I had a lot of trouble making it - making it plain, that is. Unfortunately, the tiny touches of ribbon trim and pink rosebud embroidery I added for sewing pleasure meant that the dratted dear fashionista completely rejected the blouse and never wore it. Now for anyone else, this would mean that I did not sew them anything ever again, but I am putty in my daughters' hands.
Here is a plain white blouse Mark #2.

This is such a basic pattern that Burda made it in an outrageous print to insert some interest for the seamstress. I however, had to make it in white cotton. Sigh.

This extremely dull item of clothing was made so that my daughter could meet the uniform requirements to volunteer (as a  Yr 11 waitress) at her school's formal ( for Yr 12), which was actually a cunning plan to have a good close look at all the dresses so as to get ideas for her own stunning number for next year. She believes in future planning.

She convinced me to sew the blouse by telling me it was necessary for design research and future sewing pleasure on my part, which would definitely involve at the least silk, and probably lace, boning and tulle. I think she is planning on a career path involving persuasive speaking.

I had to think about this future sewing quite hard in order to get through the blouse.

There is, in fact, very little to say about it.
1. Scale down to size 34
2. Square the shoulders.
3. Round the collar ends (I have been brought very low to consider this a design change)
4. Cover the neckline seam with self bias.

 Dull, don't you think? I did add machine embroidery, white on white to the button placket, and fortunately she did not notice this. I had to do something to relieve the boredom.

The fabric is a medium weight cotton herringbone twill from deep stash, 1.1m circa 2000 (probably).


Stashbusting statistics - 1.1 metres, but this advance was ruined by subsequent purchase of 7 metres of fabric towards the formal dress....
