Today I am stepping out of my comfort zone and wearing layers - short over long. This is not a look I have attempted previously, feeling that I do not need the bulk (or usually the warmth) of this style. When I put on this summer tank top (hand knit cotton - Jo Sharp Knit 5) (posted about here) over my new Burda Style 08-2010-112 cotton-lycra knit top, I felt a bit like someone playing dress ups, but have decided after much encouragement from my teenage daughters that it is merely slightly fashionable (in rural Queensland, fashionistas, so spare me New York, London and Sydney up to the minute stuff!).
The skirt is my denim version of BWOF 4-2009- (posted about here). On reading this post I see that I was not sure about this skirt when I first made it, but having worn it all the time for 18 months now, I can let you know that it was a real success. It seems that I am very wary of new things. Note to self: I must try more new patterns.

I love this outfit! You are looking good every day in your self-stitched wardrobe. What an accomplishment!
Lookin' sharp! Love it, you have got some great wardrobe ensembles there..
Uh, that would be VERY fashionable in my casual neck of the world! I love that skirt. I really need to try more skirts....
I love your "note to self"! I'm in the same boat, returning to the same tried and tested patterns ad infinitum (hopefully not ad nauseum...)
I adore this skirt. I love its randomly placed little pocket. I can see why you wear it all the time!
Thankyou for your lovely birthday wishes
You look great. I am glad your daughters convinced you to wear this, because it looks lovely on you.
Yeah, great outfit - casual but with interest!
It does look nice but not very you. Mind I'm same age as you and in semi rural Cheshire so what do I know, I lack the aid of teenage daughters to point these things out and DH and cat just stare blankly when asked for fashion advice.
I wear layers all the time and love them. I think it's quite a sharp outfit.
I just wanted to tell you that I went on a 2 hour bike ride last weekend and did it again today.
Last weekend it was flat and we had a nice rest in the middle. Today we had hills and we did not stop to rest. I thought of you! I thought "if kbenco can do it, I can do it! keep going!"
So thank you for posting a lot about bicycling. (my husband also appreciates my new interest:)
It looks great! I think you have the kind of figure that shows through the bulk... whereas mine just gets flattened out by it ;). I adore fitted sweaters on curvy women, but they just look shapeless on me :)
Are you ready to be done with Self Stitched September and being able to move onto other things? You've done such a great job and it's been fun to read about...but it is almost the end of the month!
You'd pass muster in Sydney in that outfit. You should do layers more.
