Self Stitched September 26, finally some warm weather

I went to the Sunday Markets this morning, and thought that would be a good backdrop for my photo, but unfortunately, the excellent shot in front of a fruit and veg stall turned into a shot of the messy back of the fruit and veg van. My photographer is becoming very bored with Self Stitched September. I have promised to make her a t shirt as bribery seems fairly effective....

I almost retired this dress at the end of last Summer, as it is unfortunately made from cheap and nasty Spotlight cotton (I fell in love with the print) and the fabric is not in great condition. However I love the dress. It is still OK for a slouchy Sunday, and I don't feel guilty wearing it to do the gardening. Despite making dresses quite frequently, I am chronically short of summer dresses in my wardrobe, as wearing a dress for 9 months of warm weather usually wears them out.

I am vaguely considering a repeat version, but this pattern (Simplicity 3877, reviewed here)is a real fabric hog - it took 6m of the (admittedly narrow) cotton from Spotlight - due to all the gores in the skirt.

That IS a lot of fabric, but your lovely dress was worth it! Ooh, I missed your blue lace top in an earlier post, and this is gorgeous!!! Love!

One of the first dresses I made was a version of that dress!

Unfortunately, I knew nothing about lining fabric at the time and completely lined the dress in polyester. The dress is always uncomfortable to wear. If it's cool enough outside for the poly, the sleevelessness leaves me too cold. If it's even remotely warm enough for sleeveless, it's way too warm for polyester next to my skin. Ah well. Live and learn.

Its a lot of fabric but a wonderful shape on you. Perhaps a heavier fabric would be a little stiff to start with but wash up really nicely.

I've made that pattern - it is a fiddly fabric hog - but I usually get so many compliments because of the lovely fitted bodice. Your dress and hat look so sweet together - yeah, bring on the summer dresses!!
