What is that thing and who said they would make one?

I am not a morning person. I like to sleep in on Saturdays if I am not working. This morning, my morning person husband brought me a cup of tea in bed (after his 2 hour "short" bike ride). My resistance is low at this time of day. I was very pleased with the cup of tea, but I should have known what was coming. He left this next to the cup of tea.

Tomorrow, there is a 5 or so hour bike ride, and this peculiar looking item, partially upicked to make the job easier for me, which is very useful for the mature male cyclist who does not want to be sunburnt through his helmet, or at the back of his neck, will not be dry by then. He would like one by 5.15am thanks.
It is not an item easily purchased, as it was a freebie caught from the Corolis truck during the Tour de France last year. I do not think we will be going to the Tour de France too often, worse luck.

It was surprizingly well made - all edges finished, edgestitched and topstitched. I traced it out to make a pattern, using the grainlines of the original item, then decided that I could line it up a bit better!

I am not allowed to have a front view.

It was an interesting reverse engineering project.

He would like 3 of them.
Hmmmmm.

You really are the best wife ever. I will not be showing this post to the hubs lest he start begging, but just for the sake of academics, what sort of fabric did you use? Not that I'm thinking of making one, mind you...

I hope that cup of tea was a very good one...!
This is a great idea... it reminds me of the surgical caps that my husband wears. I have traced off a pattern to make one up but never have :) ; you are such a thoughtful wife! And the fabric print is cute and yet manly at the same time...

and I can see you have it done well ahead of the deadline - how very nice indeed. g

Wow, that is a surprisingly complex pattern for what is basically a headcloth. I agree with the others, you are Wife of the Year (that being said, I'm indulging in some senseless man-sewing, myself, right now)

My brother-in-law wears similar things (more of the motorcycle-variety, though) and I've occasionally thought about trying to make one for a gift, but I think the patterns of his are much simpler...

Omigosh, you are the QUEEN of wives, but he seems pretty neat too. That is very cool! Maybe next time you can either model it yourself or one of your adorable children? It would be kewl to see it sans helmet. But only if you want. :D

What a cute couple you are!

It did make me laugh that he'd started to unpick the headscarf - how very thoughtful! Looks like you've done a nice job. What a good wife! Nice choice in fabric too.

Aah this post makes me laugh .. the none too subtle approach but at least he did try to sweeten the deal.

I hope that you asked for home made chocolate brownie with that cup of tea!

Oh well at least he knows how to sweeten the deal. It is a clever idea.

It is a strange looking thing but no doubt very useful. A few years ago I made my husband something like that out of an old undershirt for him to use while painting the house. He designed the pattern. The outcome was hideous (unlike your nice version) but kept the sun off.
