Missing link?

There is something in the air in Queensland. I have just read Bloom's Fabric obsession's post, about her fabulous fuschia skirt, and Raindrops and Belly flops' post, displaying her lovely cowl neck t shirt, and had to write about my otherwise uninspiring and un-post-worthy t shirt - fuschia and a cowl neck. SNAP!

Unfortunately, I am rather unhappy about this project.
It is a refashion, of a silk jersey dress which I had worn only twice - too bright and shiny for me. The fabric was an internet surprize colour.

The top pattern is Vogue 8634 again, and is much more loose in silk jersey than in my merino or cotton/lycra versions. It is also rather unflattering. However, I am blaming the colour, not the pattern, as I like the earlier versions. I am not sure how it looks on your monitor (to me it is rather more pink in real life than it appears on my screen), but when I wore this into the living room for family display, my 17 year old daughter asked me about the scars on my face - which have been present since a bicycling accident in 1993, and she had never noticed previously. Hmmm, maybe this is not a colour that enhances my complexion....
Sometimes a dress you don't wear should be passed on, not cut up to make yet another thing that won't be worn. I guess you can't win every time!

I feel your pain on the non-flattering fabric colors...I just bought a peach colored jersey online that couldn't blend with my skin tone any more perfectly. It's creepy. And, while you didn't love the dress, at least you attempted to save it. I'd give it to a charity shop, because I bet it will be lovely on someone who will love it. :-)

I have a very hard time with a certain shade of fuschia. I can do the warmer pinks but if I'm in a cooler shade of pink, I look sickly. Too bad the color doesn't work for you because the fabric looks like it feels fabulous!

You win some, you lose some! I think it was worth a try.

Yes...the perfect connecting posts for ours :)

Well it looks great on the screen. It looks as though it is enhancing your peaches n cream complexion. Perhaps you need to save it for make-up days?

Though if you aren't going to wear it...cowl necks are very popular. Perhaps you could sell it in your shop...display it with a knitted scarf and somebody just may ask about it.

I thought the colour looked good on you. You did a great job refashioning the dress.

The colour I see is a lovely fuschia and I would wear it in a heartbeat! I think it looks lovely on you, but if the colour is not right for you, you will never wear it no matter what we all say. I made a purple wrap dress recently that I fear will suffer the same fate. I like it, everyone else likes it, but it just doesn't seem right on my skin!

I agree. It was worth a try.
The dress did look good on you to me.

Perhaps it is punishment for cutting into a really gorgeous dress. Do you have any idea of how fabulous you looked in it?

Sorry it isn't working for you but worth the try. I was told a long time ago if someone asks you if you are feeling well or comment about a blemish/scar then you are definately wearing the wrong colour close to your face.

It was worth a try - bet that fabric wasn`t cheap either - silk jersey. You couldn`t wear it as a PJ top to match you recent PJ bottoms ?

This is such a flattering style on you. If you don't love the colour, could you dye it?

I think I'd have a hard time giving up this top, simply because it must feel good on. But I sure do understand about the wrong color. Maybe it would be a good undergarment with the cowl removed, but on the other hand someone might really love it if you give it away, and that is satisfying too. Great job trying to salvage the dress, that's for sure.

Damn, that's annoying. Good for you for trying to make it work for you though.

Thank you so much for your recommendations on good outwear fabric stores, which I have checked out, and I remembered your own marvellous creations and went back to re-read your posts on these. I have such admiration for your resourcefulness in making your family's outdoor gear!
Thank you for the never ending inspiration!

I too have lovely fabrics that didn't quite translate into lovely garments for me. That's where I pass them on to the op shop in the hope that the beautiful fabric will find a new, more suitable home. There is a lot of blue in that fuchsia, which is probably why you are not enjoying wearing it. I love coffee coloured garments and have sewn 2, worn them twice and then given them away - much as I love the colour, knowing how sickly I look in them, I never feel comfortable. I hope your beautiful garment finds a loving new home.
