It is an unfortunate circumstance, that no matter how addicted one is to sewing, it does not always come first. Due to other activities unreasonably consuming my time, there has been no sewing here, (the emergency school trousers repair does not count). This is very bad for me, and I am quite sure that my family would really like me to spend a lot of time in my sewing room this weekend. Fortunately, even when dashing about doing work and family things, one can always purchase fabric. I spent 15 minutes in The Fabric Store in Fortitude Valley (Brisbane)last Wednesday. It would have been 45 minutes, but they decided last Monday that they would be closing at 5pm from now on,instead of 5.30pm. This was undoubtedly very good for my wallet. I bought nearly only what I had planned - the papercut leggings pattern, and fabric to make winter running tights from the pattern. SDC10459
The fabric is nylon backed merino, and not as dark as I would like, but due no doubt to the 30% sale going on, the stock was rather limited. SDC10460
The other fabric is a rather pretty silk remnant that might be a scarf one day.Isn't it nicely packaged?
During the Brisbane trip my daughter tried on some clothes in Cue. She was very taken with a jacquard shallow box pleated skirt, but not the $195 price, which is rather out of her budget. We dashed over to Indooropilly, and spent another 15 minutes in Ewan Gardam Fabrics, fortuitously located only 3 blocks from the train station, finding this cotton denim, nothing like the jacquard, but with a similar hand.
SDC10461 I have high hopes that she may sew herself the skirt. Someone should use the sewing machine or it will get lonely.

Beautiful fabric choices. I felt right alongside you on your comment about the negative ratio of time to love for sewing.

You did manage to get some lovely fabrics in your very limited shopping time. I can also relate to the negative sewing aspect, I'm sure my sewing machine is very lonely.

That was a well spent 15 minutes.

Ohhh, don't tell me you missed a visit to Sckafs's whilst at Indooropilly??? My son has been having training just down the road, and I can easily fill in the hour between Sckafs, Gardams and Spotlight, all within walking distance - just hard on the hands carrying the bags back...

Oh, sew jealous that you got to The Fabric Store.

In NZ the Fabric store (aka Global fabrics) gives VIP members 40% off at sale time. Just to make your more jealous. And is only 10 minutes from my home. Does that make you even more jealous or relieved to be so far from temptation???

My sewing machine is feeling very neglected of late too. I have to be careful it doesn't get too lonely and start looking elsewhere for company.

BTW I am loving the Shirley Corrihor book. It is quite intriguing to know what roles various ingredients play in the construction of baking. It explains why gluten/dairy free baking is commonly so awful, because unless you compensate for the role of gluten or fat you are going to be in trouble. thanks for the recommendation.

Good scores, look forward to seeing them made up. I am also curious to see how you get on with the nylon backed merino - the good quality stuff is excellent - the poor quality has shredded after only a few washes.

Ooh I wonder if the Sydney store stocks those patterns? It's true, when life is too busy for sewing (or blogging) there is still time for fabric shopping and dreaming / planning.
