Self Stitched September 6
Burda World of Fashion Skirt, 06-2008-122, Linen, lined with cotton batiste
Jalie Sweetheart Top, merino jersey knit
I made this skirt in October 2008, and have not worn it all that often, but would like to wear it more frequently. I made it because I liked the look of the tie on the yoke, but this makes any untucked top look peculiarly lumpy, and is placed so that if you wear an open cardigan or top, that side rucks up over the tie. The waist is a little loose, so I can only wear knit tops tucked in, as woven blouses work themselves out, so I spend all day tucking them in again. This skirt sounds even more limited when I write down the issues! Maybe I should make another one with no tie.
I would like to wear it more, despite these issues, so plan to make more knit tops - this is a lack in my wardrobe.
I really like the top. I made it in July, and have worn it very frequently, and it is holding up well. The Jalie sweetheart top (2787) is one of my favourite knit patterns and I have made around 20 versions (for several different people).

That's an adorable skirt. The tie gives it a unique look--love it!
Hi! I'm glad you posted a link to your blog on Self Stitched September because I've been admiring your outfits everyday!! Do you make all your clothes?
Great outfit! I see your point about the tie-it really is a wonderful addition to the skirt however. I love all your style choices.
My eye went immediatlely to the skirt and the bow! Love it! And thanks for posting about your vacation - it has been interesting to "see" London and Paris through your eyes!
Great outfit! I think the tie makes it special; can't you make the skirt a bit tighter? (I used a very slapdash method recently with success: sewing/easing a slightly shorter grosgrain ribbon to the inside waistband of the garment.) And how come you actually make the garments (like this skirt) that keep getting pushed to the back of my queue?
Great skirt. I can see the issues with having a tie at the waist, but you have a lovely waist so the tucked in jersey tops look great.
I love the tie on the skirt, but you would probably get a lot of wear out of one without a tie to.
Both pieces are so cute. I really love the skirt the best though.
Great combination - with the top tucked in the tie looks nice - a great feature.
I love the skirt. I don't remember that pattern. I'm going to drag out the magazine and take another look. Is your hair different?
I loved that skirt in the magazine when I saw it, but haven't made it for the reasons you mentioned. However, it's certainly a great style for that tiny waist!
