Jalie 968 Lime Green Shorts

I have been using up some small pieces of fabric that are lurking in my fabric stash. I just managed to squeeze out a pair of shorts, using Jalie 968 (jeans pattern), in a size t, for my 13 year old daughter.

I really enjoyed the machine embroidery on the back pocket, zip and hem lines.

As the fabric is a stretch woven cotton with lycra, I stabilized the waist and crotch seam lines with a selvage strip and used a walking foot for all of the construction, except the embroidery, where I used interfacing underneath. I bound the facing and made the fly shield from a quilting cotton print.

I had to make these shorts even shorter for my daughter than my fabric allowed, as she has recently realized that she has nice legs. There was some discussion about the likelihood that she might grow over summer, so should allow for this when determining appropriate length. I think I have pulled this off with my fast talking.
She was initially dubious about the lime green cotton stretch woven I dug out of the depths of my remnant pile, but you can see here that she was quite happy with the end result.

Quite fun! I remember when I discovered the magic of the "one-inch inseam"... I think I was 14. >_<

How fun! Your daughter is lucky that you sew for her so much! My two daughter's aren't so lucky... ;)

She should be happy with them! They're adorable!

Don't tell her, but she does have quite nice legs. I don't blame her for wanting to show them off.

Great! My daughter needs several pairs of shorts - she is growing way too fast - age 13!

You are very lucky that your daughter will still wear home made shorts. Maybe it's a city thing but my youngest (just shy of 15) will only wear store bought denim shorts. It frustrates me! The last pair she bought had frayed edges and torn holes in the front. Caused an absolute shouting match.

It is the highest form of a compliment when your teen wears clothes that you made! I wish my mom made me lime green shorts. They are CUTE!

Those are great! I'm glad you posted a pic inside out. I'm trying to decipher fly instructions at the moment.

Oh go on, let her wear the short shorts...whilst she can. Wish I could.. Well I do, but perhaps I shouldn't!

The lime greem looks great. Glad that somebody can use that jalie pattern.
